Community Points, Levels, and Leaderboards Explained

See how members earn points through reactions, how the 9-level system works, and how leaderboards and level-gated courses drive community engagement.

Berrytap's points and levels system turns everyday participation into a game. Members earn points every time their contributions resonate with others, climb through nine levels as they grow, and compete on the leaderboard for bragging rights. As a creator, you can also use levels to unlock exclusive course content — rewarding your most engaged members with more value.

How members earn points

Points are simple and transparent:

  • A member earns 1 point every time another member reacts to one of their posts or comments.
  • Self-reactions do not count — you can't boost your own score by reacting to your own content.
  • Points are community-specific — your level in one community has no effect on your standing in another.
  • Points are permanent. Even if a post is later deleted, any points already earned from reactions to that post are kept.

Levels

There are 9 levels in every Berrytap community. Your level is calculated from your total all-time points and resets only if you leave and rejoin a community.

Your current level badge is displayed directly on your avatar everywhere it appears in the community — on your posts, comments, member profile, and the leaderboard. This makes levels a visible signal of how active and valued a member is.

Leaderboard

The leaderboard is accessible from the community sidebar and ranks all active members by their points.

  • All-time — Total points earned since joining the community.
  • Last 7 days — Points earned in the past week. Great for spotting who's most active right now.
  • Last 30 days — Points earned over the past month. Useful for identifying consistently engaged members.

Only active members appear on the leaderboard. Suspended or canceled members are hidden until their access is restored.

Run a monthly engagement contest using the Last 30 days leaderboard tab. Announce a reward — a shoutout, a free resource, or a 1:1 session — for the member at the top of the board at the end of the month. Visibility of the prize drives participation all month long.

Level-gated courses

You can restrict access to a course until a member reaches a minimum level. This is a powerful way to:

  • Reward highly engaged members with advanced or exclusive content.
  • Create a natural progression path that keeps members posting and reacting.
  • Reduce overwhelm by revealing content gradually as members grow.
